13 Reasons Why

Image result for 13 reasons why13 Reasons Why season one was released on March 31, 2017, as a Netflix original series. I wanted to write specifically about this series because of how strongly I believe in it and the message behind it. I binged watched this 13-episode series in about 3 days right after it was released on Netflix. I can honestly say this was the best series I have ever watched.

The plot summary of this series, from IMDb:

Thirteen Reasons Why, based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher, follows teenager Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers a group of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) -his classmate and crush-who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah unfolds an emotional audio diary, detailing the thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, Thirteen Reasons Why weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect viewers.

Overcoming hardships in your life

Throughout your life, there is a pretty good chance that you will have to endure/overcome a hardship. Now this hardship might be something as simple as doing badly on a test to something that’s life changing such as, a death of a loved one.

A hardship in one’s life may not seem as big of a deal in another perosn’s life. In no way does this make your hardship any less of a hardship. I say to heck with what others think and if someone has to judge you for what you are going through in life they shouldn’t get the honor to have a special place in your life.

Something that may seem so insignificant in their own life may be the reason someone else is dealing with a hardship. Life can be cruel sometimes but I give the big props to the people that overcome. Someone that in the face of something hard that knocks them down they get right back up and face it head on. These are the people that deserve the real props. It’s not easy to face adversity head on but when you overcome it the reward will be that much greater.

As I come to a close on my little spiel I just want you to know that someone in your life cares. Friends, family, peers, teammates, coaches, co-workers, teachers, there is someone out there that cares. There is always someone that is willing to listen and that you can talk to. And if you think your hardship(s) are insignificant you are wrong because there is a reason you feel the way you do. I am here to tell you that what you are feeling is very real and just because your problem may be small in the grand scheme of things does not make it any less of a problem.

Your Last

Well, Seniors, you are now at the halfway point in your last high school year. If you are anything like me this year has gone by incredibly too fast. At times it scares me how fast time goes, because what happens next? We are so used to being in the high school bubble. Am I really ready for the ‘real world’?

One day, if it hasn’t happened already you will step foot in your high school for the last time. Eventually, it becomes your year of ‘lasts’. Your last first day, last game, last practice, last dance, last pep rally, last test, your last day. Thinking back on it I always felt as if I had forever. You think that you will be friends with these people forever. I mean you did watch these people grow up before your very own eyes. You watched these people grow, mature, fall in and out of love, succeed and fail, by the time you graduate you have spent 13 years with these people. Some of these people you grew very close with forming an unbreakable bond, some you barely know, some have been your teammates for years, best friends, significant others, and maybe even an ex-best friend or two. The day you walk across the stage at graduation will be the last time that all of these people will be in the same room again at one time.

It all sounds so cliche but seriously thinking back you can never take a moment for granted because senior year is the year of lasts. If you are in sports eventually it will be your last practice, last round of conditioning, last time wearing your jersey, last game, last time with the people you have spent years playing with. These are the same people you started the sport with all those years ago, the ones you grew as a player and a person with. With teammates an unbreakable bond is formed, so many memories are created full of ups and downs. One day this will all come to an end and you will only be left with the memories.

As a freshman you sit around thinking that you are never going to be a senior… four years is a long time right? Well eventually time passes and you become the senior. Eventually, the four years of practices and games dwindle down until you have no more. Never take that practice or game for granted because you will never get that time back.

So with your high school experience you are going to have the ups and downs just like most of us, but never take a moment for granted because one day you are going to be wishing for a do-over. You will never get to press that rewind button that puts you back to your underclassmen days. As cliche as it sounds soak it all in because in a blink of an eye it all comes to an end and soon all you will have left are the memories.

Well, today is my 18th birthday and to say I have learned and experienced a lot is an understatement. I think the best quote I have come across, to sum up, my feelings about turning 18 and thinking about the future is this…

“It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re seventeen and planning for someday, and then quietly, without you ever really noticing, someday is today, and that someday is yesterday and this is your life.”    -Nathan Scott (One Tree Hill)

My Christmas list

Well, it’s that time of year again when the snow begins to fall, lights shine bright, Christmas music is blasted in malls, cars, and in homes. Relatives begin to ask what you want for Christmas… this has always been my biggest problem, what do I want for Christmas. I mean I have pretty much everything I want yet I am always asked what I want. This year I have put a little thought into what I want and am going to post some of my wishlist ideas down below. I hope this helps you with forming your Christmas list.

  1. GoPro Hero 5 – $399Image result for gopro hero 5

This is on my list due to the many new features that it has. What stood out to me the most is that this GoPro has voice commands “GoPro take a picture”. I think this new GoPro feature comes in handy when you are trying to hold the camera, it makes it more hands-free and you now don’t have to push a button in order to complete an action. Another feature I like on this GoPro is the 2-inch touch display which makes viewing your pictures and videos very easy. I think one of the better features of this new GoPro is that it now does not need a housing shell in order to go under water. Instead, the actual camera itself is rated for up to 33 feet under water.

3. iHome Bluetooth vanity mirror – $149.99PDP main image

I have been in need of a makeup vanity mirror. While out shopping at my local Bed Bath & Beyond I was looking at the makeup mirrors and stumbled upon this one. My room is very dark so the lighted mirror would be perfect. I also really like the built-in Bluetooth speaker in this mirror. It would come in handy when you want to listen to music while getting ready for school, work, or a night out. Another cool feature of this makeup mirror is you are able to answer your phone while getting ready due to the Bluetooth connection. You can also charge your phone with this makeup mirror.

—–> What are some things you guys are asking for???

It’s that time of year again where we load up our plates and endlessly stuff our faces full of food. Once we are done eating we like to spend the day lazily watching football and spending the day with our loved ones. How can one not love this holiday?

food eating thanksgiving thats so raven turkey day

Thanksgiving to me has always been my favorite holiday. The food is out of this world, and who doesn’t love a holiday in which it’s ok to overeat? But eating isn’t just what I love about this holiday. This holiday is a time to be thankful for all of your loved ones and everyone one you hold dear to your heart. The best times are ones spent around the table eating our Thanksgiving meals and sharing stories. Some of which I have heard hundreds of times. There are too many things to even list that I am thankful for. I am fortunate to have an amazing family that all love and care for each other and I would not trade that for anything.

Many times throughout the year we take so many things for granted. We don’t stop  to think about how much time, energy, and thought goes into someone’s positive action(s). For example, growing up parent’s sacrifice so much for their child. I know this first hand. My parents have always taken time for me they have always attended my sporting events, always were encouraging in any endeavor I have encountered, and have always done everything they can to help me succeed. But yet here I sit and think about how many times I have actually said thank you. In my heart, I have always been thankful for everything they have done but I haven’t always expressed it to them. They would do anything for me and yet many times their actions go unnoticed or my appreciation for the actions not expressed. So, this year I am most thankful for everything they have done to shape and mold me into the individual I have become. Without them, I truly would be a much different individual and I would not trade them for anything. No thank you would be big enough for how much I truly do appreciate what they do.

Another one of the things I’m thankful for would have to be my family in general, I am so very lucky that I get to share this holiday with. Not everyone is as lucky as I am, I get to spend the holiday with a lot of my family members.  I’m one of those lucky people who get to go to my relative’s house to celebrate. I’m very thankful for the time I get to spend with all of the people I have because they all aren’t going to be around forever. Last year I was lucky enough to get to share thanksgiving with my grandpa who later in the year passed away. This year there will be an empty spot in which he had always filled. I am very thankful for the time that I did get to spend with him. This puts things into a much bigger perspective for me. The people that you share thanksgiving with won’t be there forever. Make sure you spend the holiday being thankful for everything and everyone in your life. disney family eating holiday thanksgiving

I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving holiday, filled with family, friends, and of course good food. Happy Thanksgiving!
