Your Last

Well, Seniors, you are now at the halfway point in your last high school year. If you are anything like me this year has gone by incredibly too fast. At times it scares me how fast time goes, because what happens next? We are so used to being in the high school bubble. Am I really ready for the ‘real world’?

One day, if it hasn’t happened already you will step foot in your high school for the last time. Eventually, it becomes your year of ‘lasts’. Your last first day, last game, last practice, last dance, last pep rally, last test, your last day. Thinking back on it I always felt as if I had forever. You think that you will be friends with these people forever. I mean you did watch these people grow up before your very own eyes. You watched these people grow, mature, fall in and out of love, succeed and fail, by the time you graduate you have spent 13 years with these people. Some of these people you grew very close with forming an unbreakable bond, some you barely know, some have been your teammates for years, best friends, significant others, and maybe even an ex-best friend or two. The day you walk across the stage at graduation will be the last time that all of these people will be in the same room again at one time.

It all sounds so cliche but seriously thinking back you can never take a moment for granted because senior year is the year of lasts. If you are in sports eventually it will be your last practice, last round of conditioning, last time wearing your jersey, last game, last time with the people you have spent years playing with. These are the same people you started the sport with all those years ago, the ones you grew as a player and a person with. With teammates an unbreakable bond is formed, so many memories are created full of ups and downs. One day this will all come to an end and you will only be left with the memories.

As a freshman you sit around thinking that you are never going to be a senior… four years is a long time right? Well eventually time passes and you become the senior. Eventually, the four years of practices and games dwindle down until you have no more. Never take that practice or game for granted because you will never get that time back.

So with your high school experience you are going to have the ups and downs just like most of us, but never take a moment for granted because one day you are going to be wishing for a do-over. You will never get to press that rewind button that puts you back to your underclassmen days. As cliche as it sounds soak it all in because in a blink of an eye it all comes to an end and soon all you will have left are the memories.
